2006
Grand Prix Historique de Monaco
This must see
historic motor sport event is held every two years on the weekend
before the Fourmula One grand prix.
This year a few
Australian's made the journey - to compete, not just spectate!
Both Peter Strauss
(Vic) and Don Thallon (Qld) have taken their Foormula Junior's overseas
to compete in the European Formula Junoir Championship. It comprises
nine rounds in total, with the Historic de Monaco one of them.
Tasmania's Scotty
Taylor (one of the great Touring Car privateet's) scored a drive in
someone else's car at this year's event - a 1981 Williams F1 (similar
to which Alan Jones one the 1980 Championship in).
Soccty recently
sent a postcard to historicracing.com.au founder Charles Rogers on
his Monaco experience.
The seat fitting
was completed in the week of the meeting with padding needed behind
up to bring him closer to the pedals.
He qualified well
for Sunday's 15 lap race in which he made a great start passing six
fellow competitors, and was steadily climbing till a broken axle near
the entrance to pit lane finished his campaign. Still a fantastic
effort given he hadn't driven this particular car before.
Scotty, and his
wife will stay overseas till later in the year with his newly restored
ex/ Jim Russell Cooper Climax T46 on it's way over for some meetings
in Europe betwwen now and September.
