2011 marks the 50th anniversary of the last Victorian Trophy motor race that took pplace at Ballarat Airfield as part of the 1961 Ballarat “International Meeting”.
The recreation event is to held over the Easter long weekend in 2011 where much lobbying has secured the Ballarat Airfield for this period.
All the stars of the time were there – locally including Bill Patterson, Lex Davison and Stan Jones, and internationally – Innes Ireland, Graham Hill and Dan Gurney.
The Easter 2011 festival will feature a number of these historic vehicles, and will also pay tribute to the officials and spectators who made the events so famous. A number of lead-up community events will be held at the Ballarat Mining Exchange.
Historic Racing Australia will be following this event, so stay tuned for further details. If you have a car that competed in the ’51 or ’61 events and are keen to participate, or are interested in becoming involved the event organiser, John Emery is quite keen to hear from you – email@example.com
