The 2017 edition of the Historic Sandown meeting is on this weekend. With Remembrance Day Saturday and good weather forecast it’s a must event for any historic racing fan to attend.
If the F5000 racing in New Zealand last weekend was any indication, this is the chance to see the Aussies doing battle with a field of eleven cars entered. Our tip of the battle will be between hard-chargers Andrew Robson (Lola T332) and Bryan Sala (Matich A50/51).
The 1960s racing car field (Groups M & O) has a star field of exceptional cars, including the Brabham BT11 (ex Frank Gardner, Jack Brabham), and the ex Bib Stillwell / Jack Brabham Brabham-Repco BT31 – the latter to be driven by former Bathurst & ATCC Champ, John Bowe. This will be a treat to see the car driven at speed and how Bowe goes with the tough competition from regulars; including Laurie Bennett (Elfin 600B). The field will also see the three Australian-delivered Lotus 18 Formula Juniors reunited, including the first showing of the Paul Faulkner car since its purchase from the late Roger Ealand’s stable.
There will be plenty of action across two fields for both 1960s-70s Production Touring & Sports Cars. While there are also some more modern “invited” categoreies including Sports Sedans and MG.
Tickets are available at the gate.
